In Literature
Katerina Bakolias' debut young adult novel, "Luscious Love," was traditionally published by James Lorimer & Company Ltd. in February 2024. In addition to her own writing, Katerina helped fulfill her late grandfather Alexander Gillis's dream by publishing his memoirs, "Hard-Time Soup," in 2022.
A graduate of Dalhousie University's Fountain School of Performing Arts, Katerina is also an accomplished playwright. Her first play, "'Til Death Do Us Part," premiered in 2022 and was nominated for a Merritt Award for Outstanding New Nova Scotia Play.

Hard-Time Soup

Hard-Time Soup is a memoir, containing a collection of short stories written by Alexander Gillis - a former Cape Breton Miner in the 1940s. An uplifting and unique perspective on Nova Scotia's history during the Hungry '30s and Wartime '40s. Hard-Time Soup follows Alexander Gillis through his childhood adventures, his work in the mines, and his reflections on family and life in New Waterford, Cape Breton. His stories highlight an array of colourful Cape Breton folks, forgotten histories, and even a few ghost stories.
